Dr. Connie D. Steele

As a certified National Registry Medical Examiner, my role is two-fold. The first and most important is to make sure, to the best of my ability, that you as a driver are physically and mentally capable of driving your vehicle in a safe manner and to handle emergency situations, should they arise. My second role is to keep you on the road, if at all possible. In order to do this, we offer Wellness Support that includes options for nutritional counseling, dietary suggestions. and health coaching to assist you in your wellness journey.

Appointments

Same day or next day in most cases. You will be given the time it takes to do a thorough exam and answer all of your questions.

Limited Practice

I am a limited practice and do not practice spinal manipulation or other therapeutic modalities.

Professional Location

We are friendly and courteous in a comfortable atmosphere. Plenty of parking and conveniently located on US Highway 1.

Referrals

M.D. and D.C. referrals will be made, if warranted, based on my findings; and in some cases if requested.

NATIONAL REGISTRY of CERTIFIED MEDICAL EXAMINERS

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires all commercial drivers whose current medical certificate expires must be examined by a medical professional listed on the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners.

BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

I am available to you, the CDL holder, at times that are convenient for you. This is so that you do not need to take time off of work to get your exam completed. I am available most of the time between 7 am and 8 pm on most days except Sunday mornings or unless I am on the water fishing.

Are you worried about passing your physical examination for your certificate?

Let me help you get ready for the exam. There are some things you can do to improve your health ahead of exam time.

Many commercial drivers come for the examination worrying about their blood pressure being high. It is good to schedule your appointment when you will be rested and hydrated. There are several things you can do to help you to relax. Don’t drink a lot of caffeine or use tobacco for several of hours before your appointment time.

Allow time not to be rushed before your appointment.

We have a relaxed and friendly office atmosphere.

Depending upon your medical history other medical information may be required.

Contact me at least 3 months before your renewal date if you have concerns about passing the physical. We will address the issues together to help you in preparation for the exam.

What to Bring…

Current Drivers License

or other photo ID.

Prescription Medication Bottles

If you do not have the bottles with you we will need a list that includes the medication name, the prescribing physician’s name, address, and phone number.

Prescription glasses

Please make every effort to have your eyes and glasses checked every year or so. This avoids any delays in getting your certificate due to failing your eye exam. You must be able to see the 20/40 line on the eye chart.  You cannot drive with contact lenses that have one for reading and one for distance.

Hearing aids if required to wear them

You will be required to have your hearing tested. Most hearing aid companies will test your hearing at no charge. If your friends and loved ones are complaining, just go get tested. If I refer you it will be several weeks before you can get a permanent certificate. There are inexpensive hearing aids you can get on line that can work and will get you past the hearing test.

If you are Diabetic?

You must provide me with a recent (within 3 months) HgA1C lab report.  This tells me how well you are controlling your diabetes.  If I can help with your diet, I will offer that to you.
